A web platform serves both first-time visitors and users who transact every day. A good-looking homepage doesn't make up for a hard-to-use form or a record that gets lost. Evaluating the platform's quality through real user tasks is a healthier starting point.
01Identify the user's core task
Is the visitor researching a product, requesting a quote, or managing their own files? Design the start, action, and outcome screens for each task together. Show a clear confirmation when a form is submitted. When a session expires, route the user to a secure sign-in flow instead of leaving them on a generic error screen. You can find more on task-focused design in our UI/UX design article.
02Measure stability as closely as speed
Testing only on desktop with a strong connection isn't enough. Examine load times, interactivity, and layout stability on mobile devices. Core Web Vitals provide shared metrics for these areas; don't treat lab testing and real-user data as interchangeable. Google's Web Vitals guide explains this distinction. Good measurement results support the user experience, but on their own they are not a guarantee of search ranking.
03Build content management around daily use
An editor needs to be able to change text, preview a draft, and see which language is missing content. Saved content must persist after the page reloads. A visitor who switches language should land on the equivalent page whenever it exists, and should see a clear reason when it doesn't.
04Run acceptance testing with real transactions
Clicking through a menu is only the start. Form validation, file access, filter persistence, and keyboard use all need to be tried as well. When an error occurs, check that retrying doesn't create a duplicate record. A web platform should behave clearly not only under normal conditions but also during a connection or session problem. In our web platform service we plan acceptance testing around these real transactions.
05Quick checklist
- Is the core task and outcome screen defined for every user type?
- Do forms show a clear confirmation on save and an understandable message on error?
- Are mobile metrics tracked with both lab and real-user data?
- Can the editor see missing translations directly in the panel?
- Can a user safely return to where they left off after a session ends?
- Can every core action be completed with the keyboard?
